Evidence
When a decision includes evidence, each item identifies the state location and criterion associated with the answer. For structured state, path identifies the field. start and end are offsets into the source text; text is the located substring. by identifies the method, such as exact or a configured relation result.
{
"path": "parcel",
"start": 0,
"end": 20,
"text": "Parcel is in transit",
"criterion": "parcel is in transit",
"by": "exact"
}
Offsets are UTF-8 byte positions, not JavaScript character indices. In JavaScript, use TextEncoder or the SDK helpers when checking a range against the original UTF-8 bytes. The source string must be the same string that was sent with the request.
Evidence records what the selected decision path returned. It does not prove that the underlying statement is true, that the answer is complete, or that an action is authorized. Keep those checks in the application and retain the request and response together when an audit record is needed.
